London
London is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic and commercial centre. It is one of the largest cities in the world and the largest city in Europe. It’s population is about 8 million people.
London is situated on the both banks of the River Thames. Traditionally London is divided into four parts: the City, Westminster, the West End, and the East End. Numerous banks, offices and firms are situated there.
Westminster is the historic centre of government. The West End is the richest and most beautiful part of London. The best hotels, restaurants and theatres are situated there.
The East End is the poorest part of London. There are a lot of factories here. The port of London is also in the East End.
Big Ben is the biggest four - faced, chiming clock, located at the north - eastern end of the Houses of Parliament, in Westminster, London.
• Trafalgar Square is a square in central London. It’s the heart of London, it is a tourist attraction; its trademark is Nelson's Column which stands in the centre of the square, and it is a place of political demonstrations.
• Westminster Abbey is a large, mainly church, in the City of Westminster. It is the traditional place of burial.
• The Buckingham Palace as the official London residence of the Queen and the King.
• The Tower of London is the centre of London, on the north bank of the river Thames. It is the oldest building in Great Britain. Now Tower is the historical site and museum.
