Kazakhstan Pupil: Hello, welcome to Satellite link “Astana – London”. Let us start. Take a sightseeing tour round Astana. It is difficult to describe Astana in a few words. And it is very difficult to see all the places of interest.
English Pupil: As we know, the central Square and the Trelinmiks Avenue are the most interesting places in Astana, aren’t they?
Kazakhstan Pupil: Yes, right you are. The first place the tourists go to Astana is the Central Square. It is the heart of the city. Astana is the centre of political life of Kazakhstan. Residence of President, the Parliament and the Government are located here.
English Pupil: Just like the Tower of London. It was a fortress, a royal palace and later a prison. It is a museum now.
Kazakhstan Pupil: Astana is a modern growing city, a political, financial, economic, scientific and socio - cultural centre of the state. The are many places of interest in Astana: the Palace of the Youth and the Bridge across the Ishym River, the regional Museum of Fine Arts.
English Pupil: And which is the most beautiful building in Astana?
Kazakhstan Pupil: the most beautiful building is “Continental” hotel.
English Pupil: just like Big Ben in London, which is one of the most famous clocks in the world. And when did the history of Astana begin?
Kazakhstan Pupil: Astana was founded in 1830 in the steppes of Sary - Arka – the sacred place known as a centre of ancient civilization of nomads. Astana is the capital of Kazakhstan and the centre of Akmolinsk region – the Motherland of Saken Seifullin and Magjan Joumabayev. In 1832 - 1961 the city was called Akmolinsk, and when the development of virgin lands started in the Soviet Union it was renamed in Tselinograd. After Kazakhstan had gained the independence, a decision was made to replace the capital. So now Kazakhstan has a new capital and the city has a new name – Astana.
English Pupil: London is more than 2 - thousand years old. It is one of the largest cities in the world. It lies on both sides of the River Thames. About seven million people live here. London consists of tree parts: the city, the West End and the East End.
Kazakhstan Pupil: And what is the city?
English Pupil: The city is the heart of the business and financial life of the country. Most of London’s banks and offices are located in this part of the capital. It is the oldest part of London. It is small, but it is very important. More than 2 thousand years ago a town was built here. Now thousands of people come here every morning to work in large offices.
Kazakhstan Pupil: What is the West End?
English Pupil: The West End is best known to rich tourists. You will find the best theatres, clubs, museums, restaurants, shops and hotels here.
Kazakhstan Pupil: What is the East End?
English Pupil: In the East End people of all colours live. Very large river side docks here make London one of the three largest Ports in the world. Many factory workers and dockers live and work in the East End of London. You will not find big parks and gardens in this part of the city.
Kazakhstan Pupil: There are a lot of magnificent beautiful buildings, higher educational establishments, colleges and secondary schools, hotels, banks and other commercial structures in Astana. Astana is the city of great construction projects.
