The theme of the lesson: When is your birthday? 5th form
The aims of the lesson:
Educational: to present new words and expressions concerning on the theme and practice them in pupils’ speech, to introduce ordinal numerals and prepositions of time in and on, after and before.
Developing: to develop pupils’ oral and written communication skills and habits, to improve pronunciation and translation skills and abilities, to motivate self - study and group work.
Bringing up: to teach children to be attentive, kind and polite, to bring up feelings of friendship and respect to each other.
The equipment’s: interactive board, flipcharts, cards, illustrated pictures, diagram, placards.
Literature: a textbook and workbook by T. Ayapova.
The type of the lesson: getting new information.
The methods of teaching: interaction, presentation, explanation, question - answer, individual work, pair and group work, game, warm - up.

1. Checking the home task.
Read and translate the sentences:
1) Rex is behind Colin.
2) Rex is between Carol and Colin.
3) Rex is in front of Omar.
4) Omar is next to Ben.
5) Omar is opposite Colin.
6) Rex is among the children.
2. Warm - up. Listen and sing the song together with the singer:

Spring is the beautiful season. The sun often shines, the sky is blue, the birds sing sings. In May the trees and grass are green. March, April, May are spring months.
Summer is a bright season. The trees are green. It’s hot and we can swim in the river. June, July, and August are summer months.
This is autumn season. The leaves of the trees are red, yellow, brown and green. September, October and November are autumn months.
Winter is the white beautiful season. The trees are white with snow. There is a lot of snow in the streets and in the park. December, January, February are winter months.
Please, repeat the names of months. Pupils will say the months in order.
Where do the month names come from?
January: named after Janus, the god of doors and gates. This month opens the year.
February: from februo. This was a Roman month of sacrifices and purification.
March: named after Mars, the god of war. Start of year for soldiers (no fighting during winter).
April: from aperire, Latin for “to open” (buds). This is the month when trees open their leaves.
May: named after Maia, the goddess of growth of plants. This is the month when plants really start to grow.
June: from junius, Latin for the goddess, the queen of Gods Juno.
July: named after Julious Caesar, the ruler of Rome in 44 B. C. He reorganized the calendar.
August: named after Augustus Caesar, another ruler of Rome in 8 B. C.
September: from septem, Latin for “seven”. The seventh month (counting from March).
October: from octo, Latin for “eight”.
November: from novem, Latin for “nine”.
December: from decem, Latin for “ten”.
