There are many national voluntary youth organizations in Britain. The largest youth organizations in the UK are the associations of the Boy Scouts and the Girl Guides. There are about 1 300 000 boys and girls in them. The movement of Boy Scouts (boys from 8 to 18) was founded in 1908 and began to spring up in almost every town and village of the British Isles. It has three specific aims known as the “Aims of Scouting”. They are: character and strong will, then comes citizenship training. It means that every Boy Scout must learn to be a good citizen and work for the country’s well - being. The third basic aim is fitness, which is clear from the name a Boy Scout must try to be physically fit and strong. The Scouts’ Motto is “Be prepared”.
