II. Vocabulary Work
Teacher’s activity: This task is given to the students beforehand to be ready.
Students’ activity: In class students form pairs and complete the chart then share with their answers.
Step 1. Speaking Look at the photos. Which of the animals live in the wild in Europe and Asia? Where do the others live? Salmon / lion / gorilla / eagle
Complete the chart and compare with your partner

Salmon is the common name for several species of fish in the family Salmonidae. Salmon are native to tributaries of the North Atlantic (genus Salmo) and Pacific Ocean. Salmon are intensively produced in aquaculture in many parts of the world. Typically, salmon are anadromous: they are born in fresh water, migrate to the ocean, then return to fresh water to reproduce.
The lion is one of the five big cats in the genus Panthera. The commonly used term African lion collectively denotes the several subspecies found in Africa. With some males exceeding 250 kg (550 lb) in weight,[4] it is the second - largest living cat after the tiger. Wild lions currently exist in sub - Saharan Africa and in Asia (where an endangered remnant population resides in Gir Forest National Park in India) while other types of lions have disappeared from North Africa and Southwest Asia in historic times. Lions live for 10 – 14 years in the wild, although in captivity they can live more than 20 years. They typically inhabit savanna and grassland, although they may take to bush and forest.

Eagle is a common name for many large birds of prey of the family Accipitridae. Most of the sixty species of eagles are from Eurasia and Africa.[1] Outside this area, just fourteen species can be found – two in North America, nine in Central and South America, and three in Australia. Eagles normally build their nests, called eyries, in tall trees or on high cliffs. Many species lay two eggs, but the older, larger chick frequently kills its younger sibling once it has hatched. The dominant chick tends to be the female, as they are bigger than the male. The parents take no action to stop the killing.
Gorilla, the largest primate. The western lowland gorilla inhabits the rain forests of the extreme southwestern Central African Republic, and extreme southeastern Nigeria. The eastern lowland gorilla inhabits the rain forests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The mountain gorilla inhabits the Virunga Mountains on the border of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda. A large male gorilla stands nearly six feet (1. 8 m) tall and may weigh 600 pounds (270 kg). Gorillas have heavy bodies, short legs, and long arms. Gorillas usually walk on all fours but frequently stand upright. Females and young males have black hair on the back. Older males are called silverbacks because the back hair turns silver - gray at about age 12. Gorillas live up to 50 years. Gorillas eat leaves, tree bark, roots, flowers, fruit, and grubs. Gorillas are protected by law in several African game refuges.
Step 2. “Animal parts” activities
Teacher’s activity: Directs the students to match as many words from the box as possible with each photo. Which words don’t go with any photo? What other animals could those words go with?
Students’ activity: Students match new words with each photo.
Antennae antlers arms beak claws fangs feathers fins front legs fur gills hind legs hooves horn knuckles mane palms paws scales shell tail tentacle tusk whiskers wing

Step 3. “What animal am I?”
Teacher’s activity: Teacher puts the picture of some animals on the table and asks them to represent one animal which they like to be and why.
Students’ activity: Students pick an animal which represents them as they are now and explain why.
Eg. I see myself as an adult lion, one of the pack of the friends and relatives who I enjoy being with. I feel healthy and strong at the moment and my life has a good balance of work.

Dinmuhamed: I have choosen a horse because a horse is a strong and beautiful animal. Kazakh people couldn’t live without а horse, it is said “Ер қанаты тұлпар”.
Zhuldyz: Philosopher Thomas White said: ‘Scientific evidence is now strong enough to support the claim that dolphins are, like humans, self - aware, intelligent beings with emotions and personalities. I love dolphins. Dolphins are very kind sea animals and they are very quick and friend of people. And I would like to be friendly and kind as dolphins.
Meirambek: I would like to be as a wolf, in the Spiritual sense is much like the wild canine. The Wolf is an animal who runs in packs, never alone. A Wolf cares for his own and for others. The Wolf symbolizes strength, power, love, companionship, protection speed, will. It symbolizes freedom, nature and energy. Much like the soft fur of the Wolf, the spirit of the Wolf is also soft and plush.
Zhansaya: Tortoises and turtles are both reptiles from the order of Testudines, but in different classification families. The major difference between the two is that tortoises dwell on land, while turtles live in the water some or nearly all of the time. The bodies of tortoises and turtles are both shielded by a shell, the upper part of which is called carapace, with the lower portion called a plastron. These reptiles are generally reclusive, shy in nature and the longest living animals. But I am not shy, I would like my works be the longest living.

Step 4. Pair work.
Teacher’s activity: Directs the students to choose the correct answers and use the language for talking about how sure they are.
Students’ activity: Students read the questions and choose the correct answer.

III. Animal idioms –
What is an idiom? And how do me learn them?
- Idiom is a group of words whose meaning is different from the meaning of the individual words and therefore not directly translatable.
